It's happening!

Our brand new Fifty States unit is officially launching with Alabama, the Heart of Dixie. This is the first of fifty rich, hands-on unit studies that take you across America one state at a time.

From geography and history to local culture and fun facts, Alabama is packed with everything you need to dive in and learn. It is designed to be only a week long, but unlike our other mini units that are only 2 pages, we have included 5 pages per day that cover all subjects other than math. This means that while you might take a break from regular school, you will still be getting that "full unit feel" with this amazing series.

We are working our way alphabetically through the states and these will be released in both the US and Canada over the next few years with launches every few weeks! (You heard that right.)

What’s Inside?

  • Civil Rights history and key figures
  • Southern cooking & cultural traditions
  • Landmarks like the USS Alabama and NASA
  • Fun state symbols and hands-on projects
  • Art and Bible connections and activities
  • Flora and Fauna
  • Science connections and experiments/activities
  • Guided notebooking and summaries (like Astronomy)
  • PLUS our unit projects for this series will include flags/banners for each state that you can add to your wall as your decor to share your journey and what you learned!

How It Works

New to Gather 'Round or the 50 States series?

Our Fifty States units are stand-alone, flexible, and designed to work for multiple ages at once. There are three levels designed for the whole family. Level 1 is designed for pre or early readers and writers (think more cutting and pasting, coloring, circling, and less writing and output). Level 2 is designed for that upper elementary age range to middle school. And level 3 is for teens (and even adults) with deeper reflection, questions, and more. For those of you who are wanting to get a full credit in civics, economics, and more . . . follow along with this series and you'll get it all!

What’s Next

Next Stop: Alaska!
Alabama is just the beginning.
We’ll be releasing a new state every few weeks until we’ve covered all 50. Stay tuned for Alaska—coming soon!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about my old reviewing days because for years, I would receive homeschool curriculum and do comparison overviews and I really thought I was helping. But the more I’ve stepped back from that, the more I’ve realized something I didn’t expect . . . I think it was actually making things harder. Instead of helping people be confident in their choices, I was showing a million different options like sauntering down the aisles of Wal-mart. It kept us searching for...

Build confidence with multiplication

This brand new unit in Modular Math is all about building a strong, confident understanding of multiplication, starting from the very beginning and growing with your student every step of the way. Students begin by learning multiplication as repeated addition and building equal groups. From there, they move into arrays, number lines, and multiplication facts, giving them a solid foundation that actually makes sense. As students move up, they’ll explore multiplication with decimals, integers,...

It all ends tonight . . . Over the last couple of days, I've seen how excited families are once they open up their Legacy Pass and see what it actually means. I can't help but be struck by fact that this is about so much more than curriculum. This is a movement of families who are looking for more than "information stuffing". We are looking for conversations, understanding, and a generation of young people who can think for themselves and lead us to wisdom. A few years back, I was asked to...
